“SHARE it Forward!”

Our Community Shares!
Help us share the joy, nutrition, education, advocacy, and community of receiving farm-fresh veggies through our SHARE it Forward project.  Please consider donating what you can here, and we will direct 100% of your donation to neighbours who don’t have the means or opportunity to buy fresh local produce.

In 2021 our customers and supporters donated an astounding $4,250 to share our veggies with neighbours in need! In 2020 that number was $5,700 and since we began this initiative in 2018, the total raised and distributed is over $15,000! Wow.

Our donations have been enthusiastically appreciated by many recipients, including CSA members & market shoppers, community meals kitchens, a local transition house, members of the Richmond Poverty Response Committee’s Richmond Advocacy Support Committee (RASC), the Richmond Food Bank, and Coming Together Richmond, a community-led food bank delivery service that formed in response to COVID.

We transform 100% of your donations into veggies for these folks, and donate as much as your donations allow.   With continued community support, we hope to continue sharing it forward each year!

How it all began:
For several years, we’d wanted to formalize a way of donating CSA shares or Sweet Digz Market Bucks to people in the community who otherwise can’t access fresh, organically grown veggies.  It began with a few donations for a CSA share and a Sweet Digz Bucks card…

But a farmer’s pockets are only so deep and we knew that together, our huge supportive community of customers might want to pitch in to help share the love.  And you did!

In 2018, we did a callout for donations, and were thrilled to find a partnership to help us expand this into a real project. The Richmond’s Poverty Response Committee‘s “Richmond Advocacy & Support Committee” (RASC) is a self-advocacy and support group for people experiencing poverty.  They meet two Fridays per month to engage in training and skill-building that has resulted in two public forums, presentations to City Council,  and other “creative literacy” projects.

The Sweet Digz Farm community’s donation of weekly veggies got divided among the RASC members at their meetings, and used in their community kitchen workshops.  In 2018, these cooking workshops supported RASC in learning about health and nutrition, and creating a cookbook full of their favourite recipes, stories, and tips on healthy eating and food shopping.

Since then, SHARE it Forward funds have spread in the form of Sweet Digz Bucks to be used at our market, CSA shares to other folks who are not part of RASC, and other community meals services.

Thank you so much for helping us spread the veggie love!
